New York’s Draft Offshore Wind RFP Shows State is Moving Aggressively to Get Projects Started

“Exhaustive document shows New York is serious about advancing offshore wind the right way, with input from everyone.”

ALBANY, NY – The New York Offshore Wind Alliance today applauded the draft RFP issued by the New York Energy Research and Development Authority for the state’s next offshore wind procurement.

Offshore Wind Alliance Director Joe Martens said: “The State this week released a draft of its call for offshore wind projects and a draft contract. The Alliance’s members will be reviewing closely and providing input. We’re delighted that New York took this action, which brings us another step closer to the release of a historic first solicitation for offshore wind well before year’s end.”

The draft RFP brings New York closer to meeting Governor Cuomo’s commitment for a 2018 offshore wind solicitation realizing the jobs, cleaner air, investments in ports and infrastructure and jobs that would come from New York being a national leader in offshore wind.

The Alliance -- a statewide coalition of environmental, business, labor and community groups -- has been urging the Empire State to move quickly and become the hub of a burgeoning clean energy economy and reap the benefits that come from being a national offshore wind leader.

New York’s offshore wind initiative could lead to upward of $6 billion in economic activity and 13,200 new jobs for New Yorkers. Gov. Cuomo’s plan would create enough offshore wind energy to power 1.25 million homes by 2030.
